An amendment to the Civil Code of the Russian Federation came into force on June 27, 2019 that provides temporary legal protection of industrial designs, in a way similar to the the protection provided for inventions (from the date of application). At the request of the applicant, after completion of formal examination information on the application for industrial designs can be published. Such publication will provide temporary protection and allows the applicant to claim infringement of the patent for industrial design once it is granted, as well as claim damages for using the design during the period from date of publication of the application till the date of publication of grant.
